New custom home construction in Harleston Village in downtown Charleston. This home won the prestigious Carolopolis Award for new construction by the Charleston Preservation Society. Meticulously designed by Laura Altman at LFA Architecture, this home was a pleasure to construct. Due to repeated flooding issues, the owners decided to tear down a non-historic home and build a home that fit right in with the other historic homes on their street. The home was designed with enhanced features to combat moisture, storms, and flooding. Notable features included James Hardie Artisan siding with alternating reveals and woven corners, Boral TruExterior trim, Henry Blueskin VP-100 self-adhered residential air barrier system, Aeritis composite decking, phantom retractable screen system on porch doors, custom cast iron rails on front piazza and landscape walls, composite impact rated glass windows, fir impact glass exterior doors, conditioned attic for HVAC ducting and equipment, and much more. This home stands out as a true testament to seeing quality craftmanship bring to life well thought-out architectural plans. The home was built under the purview of the City of Charleston’s Architectural Review Board (BAR), and they approved certain non-historic features, such as synthetic porch decking, the siding design and materials, and the composite windows.
